Puglia general information

Puglia, also known as Apulia, is a southern Italian region boasting a rich educational landscape with 1397 kindergartens, 902 primary schools, 312 comprehensive institutes, 27 high schools, 10 middle schools, and 1276 other types of institutes. The region is increasingly attractive to international students, with 16331 non-Italians currently enrolled, including 3601 Europeans and 12730 non-Europeans, out of a total student population of 474480

Puglia is a region of diverse landscapes, from the sun-drenched Adriatic and Ionian coastlines to the fertile plains and rolling hills of its interior. Its unique trulli (stone huts with conical roofs) and masserie (fortified farmhouses) dot the landscape, offering a glimpse into the region's rich history and culture. Economically, Puglia is known for its agriculture, particularly olive oil and wine production, and has a growing tourism sector. The region has a population of approximately 4 million people, with the largest cities being Bari and Lecce.

Puglia offers a wealth of attractions and entertainment options. The region is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the trulli of Alberobello and the Castel del Monte. The historic city of Lecce is renowned for its Baroque architecture, while the coastal town of Polignano a Mare offers stunning cliffside views. For nature lovers, the Gargano National Park and the Tremiti Islands offer hiking, swimming, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

In terms of entertainment, Puglia hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the year, such as the Taranta music festival in Salento and the Carnival of Putignano, one of the oldest carnivals in Europe. The region's cuisine, featuring dishes like orecchiette pasta and burrata cheese, is another highlight for visitors and locals alike.

In summary, Puglia is a region that combines a strong educational infrastructure with a rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and a vibrant economy, making it an attractive destination for both local and international students.
